Mastering explained
The final perspective.
Before your release.
Mastering is the final audio stage after mixing. It looks at the finished music as a whole, prepares it for its release format and helps a collection of tracks work together.
What changes?
Tonal balance, dynamics, stereo presentation and overall level can be refined. The goal is a finished sound that supports the intention of the mix.
For an EP or album, mastering also considers how tracks relate to each other: perceived loudness, tonal continuity and the listening experience across the release.
Mixing and mastering
Mixing balances individual instruments and voices. Stereo mastering works with the finished mix. If a problem needs individual tracks to be changed, revisiting the mix can be the better solution.
Stem mastering uses grouped elements of the mix for additional control. It sits between working with a stereo mix and making changes to the full multitrack session.
A clear process.
- Send your material.
Choose stereo or stem mastering, upload your files and tell me about the release, references and what matters to you.
- Review the direction.
Listen to the test master through your private project portal. Share feedback before approving the mastering direction.
- Approve and pay.
Your project remains linked to the same private page. The confirmed amount and selected currency are shown before payment.
- Receive your masters.
Download the finished files from your project portal. Standard mastering includes up to three revisions.
Preparing your files
Send your mix at its original sample rate as a WAV, AIFF or FLAC file. Avoid clipping. If a limiter is used only to make the mix louder, include a version without it; if it is part of the sound, explain that and include both versions where possible.
For stem mastering, export the groups from the same start point so they align. Include a stereo reference mix and explain how the groups should combine.
Digital and vinyl mastering share the same base price. A second, separately processed format is available as an option. DDP/CD preparation and unusual requirements are quoted after review.
